male fertilityMany couples in the UK experience conception issues and in slightly under half of the cases, the source of the problem is male potency. Luckily, there are many solutions to this common concern and not all of them mean operations or medical treatment.

Here at The Vasectomy Reversal Centre, we have been providing vasectomy reversal services to people in the Nottingham area for years. That makes us experts in all things to do with male potency. If you’re concerned about your fertility, consider the following simple steps.

Cut out the habits that decrease your sperm count

There are numerous things you could be doing that are negatively affecting your sperm count and sperm motility. Smoking, heavy drinking and drug use are all proven to lower fertility, as are exposure to radiation, heavy metals and pollution. As well as cutting down on all of the above, watch out for activities that may expose your testes to excessive levels of heat, such as long hot baths and wearing tight underwear.

Improve your diet

As with just about any common medical complaint, a low sperm count can be effectively battled by simply switching to a healthier diet. Fresh fruit and vegetables, legumes, wholegrain foods and antioxidants like kale, broccoli, carrots and yams can all have a powerful positive effect on potency. While introducing more of the above into your diet, reduce or entirely do away with your intake of coffee, alcohol and anything with artificial additives.

Hit the gym, get on your bike or take up a sport

You might be noticing a pattern here: the healthier a life you are living, the more likely you are to have a high sperm count. So exercise is also a very good way to improve male fertility. And yet, this comes with a caveat: while the American Society of Reproductive Medicine does advise that what it classes as ‘regular exercise’ (meaning exercising for 45 minutes or more, five times a week or more) will fight many of the causes of lower potency in men, such as obesity and stress, it also warns that high intensity exercise, such as marathon training, can lower your sperm count.

As you can see, there are plenty of simple, non-invasive ways to address the issue of male fertility regardless of your age. For those who need to undo a medical procedure, however, we run The Vasectomy Reversal Centre in Nottingham. Contact our friendly team today for more information.
