Every day, we have people coming to us having searched on the internet to find out information about having a vasectomy reversal uk. People come from all over the UK. Mr Harriss provides a national service.
We understand that it is entirely normal to try and seek out what you can find in your own area but having vasectomy reversal surgery does require that you have a specialist performing this and for that reason there are very few surgeons who do specialise. Mr Harriss is a consultant urological surgeon who performs around 40-60 vasectomy reversal operations every month.
Our Vasectomy Reversal UK Experience
We have many people coming for surgery every week, around 10, but we also have many enquiries from people who were either referred by their GP to a local urologist who just did not have the background information that they sought. Or, the other scenario that we frequently encounter is the failure of the first vasectomy reversal due to poor technique, a lack of experience or not using a microscope or all three factors. This causes much distress for all concerned.
Research in 2010 found that 75% of Urologists in the UK perform 15 or less vasectomy reversals every year. Mr Harriss performs around 500 microsurgical vasectomy reversals every year.
All surgery is performed under a general anaesthetic so you will be fast asleep and also be given powerful painkillers to be comfortable afterwards. Mr Harriss only uses one cut to access all the tissue that he needs to so you won’t have painful groin scars. The scrotal access means that he can perform far more complex surgery and increases the chance of (almost 100%) of both sides being reattached. Feedback from couples who attended less experienced or non-qualified surgeons is that often, only one side was rejoined and for the same money too.
We have a fixed price as we understand that not knowing or being given inconclusive information about what costs you may be due is very stressful. Our fixed price package of care for all vasectomy reversal surgery is absolutely fixed.
Vasectomy Reversal UK: Travelling to us?
Firstly we make it easy for you in that you do not have to come first for a consultation and then to return on a separate date. You can come and see Mr Harriss and have surgery all at the same visit. This is what the great majority of people do.
You still get the chance to ask all your questions. And importantly, you get to ask these questions in a face-to-face interview where both of you can be present, should you wish.
Travelling Long Distance for Vasectomy Reversal Surgery
There are a few options for you. You can come up the day before and stay in a local hotel. We have a couple of options depending upon your budget. If you stay over the night before, this works especially well when we have day case lists as these generally start at 7am.
If you are coming to us for day-case vasectomy reversal surgery, you can drive up to Nottingham and stay locally the night before. We have two hotels: the Premier Inn at Daybrook and the Cockliffe Hotel which is almost next door to the hotel. On the day of surgery, you can either get a taxi to the hotel (only around a 5 minute drive, if that) and then take a taxi back to the hotel at the end of the day (and your surgery). After staying overnight again, you can make your way home. As long as 24 hours has passed then you can drive home.
If you attend for a list with Mr Harriss on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, then you will need to stay overnight. Accommodation is provided for you and we can also provide accommodation for your partner, for an additional £50. Although the rooms are all single, hospital rooms, there is a restaurant downstairs where meals can be purchased.
Often couples drive to us on the morning of the surgery and then the following day, the partner drives home. You would be free to leave between 9 and 10 in the morning on the day after.

- By Train
We have two large stations almost equal distance away from us: Nottingham and Newark. Both have taxi ranks outside. If you have a smartphone, there is an app for DG Cars available from your App store which can be helpful if you are getting the train into Nottingham. This app helps you order and track taxis so there is no worrying.
It takes around 30 minutes to get the Park Hospital (NG5 8RX) or around 40 minutes from Newark.
- By Coach
We have a large coach station in the centre of Nottingham. There is a nearby taxi rank that you walk to when you arrive and the tax can drop you off at the coach station on the way back.

Our nearest airport is East Midlands airport which is around 45 minutes away. The DG Cars app mentioned before will enable you book and get quotes for your journey too and from the airport.
Flying home the next day is not a problem. We have had many people do this but you will need to be fitted with anti-embolism stockings to prevent blood clots from forming.
